It goes without saying that there is a lot of wealth around the United States. However, as in any race there’s always a winner. If you’ve ever found yourself wondering “who’s the richest person in my state?” now we know.
Using data from HowMuch.Net, the list is a mixture of self-made and inherited fortunes.
The list contains some names which should come as no surprise. Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg is California’s wealthiest resident, Jim and Alice Walton of “Walmart” fame represent both Arkansas and Texas respectively.
Some states claim a relative unknown as their wealthiest resident. It seems the further west one goes, the more familiar the names become.
It is also worth nothing that the graph represents the resident with the highest net worth in each state. While none of these fortunes are anything to sneeze at, there is a high degree of variance between them.
Mark Zuckerberg’s net worth of $62.4 billion dwarfs Jim Walton’s $38.5 billion. At the same time, Walton’s $38.5 billion is far ahead of Anita Zucker’s $3 billion.
Of course, billionaires don’t have to worry about cost of living as much as the rest of us. For us, there’s City vs City. Our cost of living calculator determines the true cost of living in your home city. From there, we compare your city to another of your choosing.
At the zip code level, we factor income, savings, expenses, and relevant state and local taxes. Would you be better of with Zuckerberg in California or Zucker in South Carolina? Download City vs City and find out.
