What Gives?

If you’re an NFL fan, the lists above tell you one thing clearly: prices are not based on how well the team performs. Cities for cheap NFL tickets tend to be mid-west and southern states that have an average cost of living lower than the major urban centers that the most expensive stadiums occupy.

Of the 5 most expensive stadiums, three are in major US cities (San Francisco, Washington D.C. and Chicago) where the cost of living is considerably higher than the national average. Of the least expensive: Kansas City, Jacksonville, and Ohio are not known to be high-price cities.

Is It all Related?

The costs at major sports stadiums is closely related to the relative cost of living in the area. The Chicago Bears, for example, haven’t won a Superbowl since 1985. The Washington Redskins have been waiting since 1991.

Both Chicago and San Francisco have high costs of living, and the ticket and concession prices reflect that.

Of course, costs can vary. The above figures are based on average season ticket prices. Game day tickets, or those in less desirable parts of the stadium may be less (or more) expensive depending on the game, opponent, and more.

There are several factors that impact the cost of going to an NFL game. However, these cities for cheap NFL tickets are a great place to start looking if you want to see a game without breaking the bank.
